We can't believe it's already been a year since the Colorado Rapids announced, "Rapids legend Jamie Smith joins FC United as the FCU US Development Academy Director." And what a fantastic year it has been!
Jamie oversees the Boys' Development Academy program and technical direction of FC United. Additionally, he plays a vital role working closely with the coaching staff to advance player development. The club was granted Academy status in 2015 and since then, Jamie has made a significant impact on the club. Not only has he enhanced the boys' program with 150 players in our first full Academy Season, but given his knowledge and experience, we were also granted Girls' Academy Status that will begin in Fall 2017.
"Smith was signed by the Rapids on July 28, 2009, played in 62 matches, scoring 7 goals and registering 13 assists in his four years with the club. Notably, Smith set up Conor Casey's goal in the 2010 MLS Cup on the way to the club's first Championship." Smith joined the Rapids Youth Development Staff after retiring in January 2014.

We've had tremendous success since the birth of our Academy Program thanks to Smith and our Academy coaches. We are thrilled to be able to give our players opportunities on the field and beyond. Here's to another great year!
