Background:

Jamie Smith is a qualified and experienced soccer professional who, throughout his career, has enjoyed success both on and off the field as a coach. He signed his first professional contract with Celtic Football Club at the age of 16. He progressed through the renowned Celtic Youth Academy and made his Celtic 1st team debut as an 18 year old. During his time at Celtic, Jamie made over 70 appearances for the club. He won two Scottish cups, two Scottish leagues and was a part of the Celtic team who lost in the 2003 Uefa Cup Final to Porto.

Jamie left Celtic FC to join Dutch Eredivisie side Ado Den Haag where he played for one season, earning over 25 appearances and gaining much experience playing in a different footballing environment.

Aberdeen FC of the Scottish Premier League offered Jamie a contract which he signed in July 2005. He spent 4 years at Aberdeen, playing over 100 games and scoring over 20 goals. Jamie scored two goals against FC Copenhagen in a match which saw Aberdeen advance to the last 32 of the Europa League where they lost to Bayern Munich.

After 4 seasons with Aberdeen, Jamie moved to Colorado to join the MLS's Colorado Rapids. He made over 60 appearance for the Rapids, scoring 7 goals and helping the team win its first MLS Championship in 2010. After 4 years playing with the Rapids, Jamie retired from playing, ending a 16 year professional playing career.

Jamie took a coaching role at the Rapids DA where he worked as Academy Director and U18 Head Coach for the Rapids Development Academy before joining FC United.

When Jamie isn't on the field, he spends his time with his wife, Laura, and three children. For Jamie, there isn't anything better than family time, reading, cooking and listening to music.

Mission:
Jamie will oversee the Academy program for the U12 age group, technical direction of the club and work closely with the coaching staff to advance player development. This role will afford him the opportunity to work on both the girls and boys side and influence players of all ages. In addition, he will be FC United’s liaison to the Chicago Fire Academy helping with player identification.

Jamie's goal is to use the experience he has gained in his soccer career to best help him positively contribute in the development of every player, youth or professional.
